Short answer

Ohio cryptids are creatures from the state’s folklore and alleged sightings - from the Loveland Frogman to Grassman reports and Lake Erie “Bessie” serpent lore. This hub will link each entry with region and evidence context once enough unique Ohio-tied pages exist.

Overview

Ohio’s cryptid map is unusually specific for a Midwestern state. Loveland’s Frogman - a roughly four-foot bipedal frog-like figure reported near the Little Miami River, including 1972 police-related stories later complicated by an iguana-misidentification claim - anchors southwest Ohio lore and even drew a 2020s push for official state-cryptid recognition.

Grassman stories place an ape-like “Eastern Bigfoot” figure especially around Salt Fork State Park in Guernsey County, while Lake Erie carries South Bay Bessie / Lake Erie Monster serpent reports from nineteenth-century newspapers through 1990s marina publicity near Huron and the Western Basin. Those named cases show why a state filter needs original geography, not a Mad-Libs intro.

AnomalyWiki has not yet published dedicated Ohio cryptid entry pages, so this filter’s live child list is empty and the hub stays non-indexable until at least eight qualifying Ohio-tied entries exist with unique fields and sources. Neighboring Appalachian lore such as West Virginia’s Mothman is related reading on the cryptids pillar but is not an Ohio child.

How we choose entries

Included if the creature is commonly associated with Ohio in folklore, local news, or repeated sighting lore (e.g. Loveland Frogman, Grassman, Lake Erie Bessie). Purely national figures with no Ohio tie are excluded.

Cross-state celebrities (e.g. Mothman of Point Pleasant, WV) may be related links but do not count toward the Ohio child threshold. Each live child must be a published beings entry. Indexable only at ≥8 qualifying children.

The list

No published Ohio-tied cryptid entries yet. Live child table is empty on purpose.

These rows become live childSlugs only after each beings page exists. Eight qualifying children are required before indexable: true.

Map

Map-eligible. An interactive Ohio cryptid map component has not shipped yet - this is a placeholder for future pins (Loveland, Salt Fork, Lake Erie shoreline). Do not invent coordinates or a fake map UI here.

Related reading (not an Ohio child): Mothman (West Virginia).

FAQ

Why is this page non-indexable? Filter hubs need at least eight unique, qualifying child entries. Ohio currently has zero published cryptid entry pages on AnomalyWiki, so the hub stays draft and noindex.

What Ohio cryptids will be listed first? Planned first children include Loveland Frogman, Grassman, and Lake Erie / South Bay Bessie, then additional Ohio-tied figures once each entry is researched and drafted.

Is Mothman an Ohio cryptid? No. Mothman is centered on Point Pleasant, West Virginia. It may appear as related Appalachian reading but does not count toward Ohio’s child threshold.

Was the Loveland Frogman explained? Popular legend emphasizes 1972 officer sightings; later public claims include a large escaped iguana misidentification. Entry pages will separate claims, sources, and grades.

Will there be a map? This hub is map-eligible, but the interactive map component has not shipped yet. The Map section is an honest placeholder until that tool exists.
